Beyond Just ‘We’ - It’s Me

We built a world on vows and dreams,
Stitched tight with hopes and quiet seams.
But time, like tide, wore through the thread,
And left me standing where we bled.

The “we” that was began to fade,
In echoes of the plans we made.
I searched the ruins, not for you—
But for the self I once outgrew.

No longer half, no longer tied
To roles I filled or truths I lied.
I dance alone in rain, unshy,
Go on solo dates beneath the sky.
I learned to cook for one with joy,
To treat my peace like it’s a toy.

I laugh alone, and not in lack—
There’s strength in choosing not to look back.
I have long rides with my pet,
Moments I’ll never soon forget.

Marriage doesn’t define me nor does my life—
Among so many events, it’s one—not the only light.
I dance at night with bare, bold feet,
And greet the dawn with something sweet.

Not bitter, no—not lost or small.
Just different now. But not less at all.
I’ve mourned, I’ve healed, I’ve dared to see—
That life’s still rich when it’s just me.

So here I stand, no less complete,
With open hands and steady feet.
Love may come or pass me by—
But I’ve grown wings I never tried.

Beyond just “we,” I found what’s true:
A life that doesn’t need a two.
No longer bound, at last I’m free—
Beyond just “we”… it’s me.
